Electric skateboards might not be the most popular mode of transportation in certain areas, but the fact that they're efficient at gaining some traction when it comes to speed can't be denied.

The Guinness Book of World Records decided to put a need for speed to the test — and got a world-renowned thrill-seeker named Mischo Erban to see if the record for fastest speed clocked on an electric skateboard could be topped.

As it turns out, the answer is yes.

The record-breaking event took place at the Portorož airport in Piran, Slovenia. A video recorded by the world record organization shows Erban zooming on the Nextboard for a few feet before crashing onto the tarmac — and despite the wipeout, the 32-year-old daredevil clocked in at 59.55 miles per hour, officially making him the record-holder for achieving "fastest speed on an electric skateboard."

Erban used a modified longboard, which are mostly used for competitive racing, as opposed to X Games-like stunts and fare. According to the Guinness Book of World Records website, the board itself was created by a Slovenian startup named Next Generation Vehicles, whose longboards, called "Nextboards," come equipped with four Scorpion engines, custom-made wheels, the ability to reach up to 62 miles per hour, four-wheel drive and a hand remote to control the speed of the cruising electronic vehicle.

(As for whether you're thinking that the crash should have been a disqualifying factor: only last June, we had a staff writer of ours — i.e., me — try out a motorized skateboard and recorded it on film. As you can see, controlling the speed of any electric-powered board with a remote control isn't necessarily as easy as you think).

This isn't the first time that Erban has made a world history: the speedster is currently in the books (or Book) for clinching the highest speed recorded on a regular skateboard at roughly 80 miles per hour.
