The One M8, which was released by HTC back in March 2014, is slowly receiving the necessary updates to take its operating system to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Google Play Edition of the smartphone received the update in November of last year, followed by the unlocked versions of the device in the United States a month later.

HTC One M8 devices under Sprint were the next ones to have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update arrive in January, and according to HTC product management chief Mo Versi, the rollout of the new operating system is continuing with Verizon and T-Mobile versions of the smartphone next in line.

In separate tweets, Versi said that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for Verizon and T-Mobile HTC One M8 units have received technical approval, with the over-the-air update to be pushed out to users on March 7.

With Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile versions of the HTC One M8 covered for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, AT&T remains the only major carrier in the United States which has not received approval to launch the operating system upgrade for its versions of the smartphone.

In July of last year, the HTC One M8 was included in the list of devices that would be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, in addition to the then-flagship One M9 smartphones. Eight months from that announcement, the operating system upgrade has reached three out of the four major carriers.

The HTC One M8 features a 5-inch, 1,080p display and an all-metal unibody, powered by a quad-core CPU with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and 2 GB of RAM. The device was launched with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, along with the HTC Sense 6 user interface.

The smartphone has an internal memory of 32 GB, with microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128 GB.

While these specs now pale in comparison with today's flagship smartphones, the device is still a very capable one, and so users that are still holding on to their One M8 smartphones should be happy to have it updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
