"Hufflepool" might be your favorite crossover term that you didn't even know you needed until now.

Reddit user kittenghost1 made an interesting observation in a recent issue of the current Deadpool comic: that if a flashback sequence with Deadpool that shows him decked out in yellow and black Hogwarts robes is true, the man also known as Wade Wilson is a Hufflepuff through and through.

The page in question takes Deadpool back to the early aughts, where our Hufflepuff House colors-wearing anti-hero is eagerly anticipating the arrival of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, having done his best to avoid every spoiler on every, erm, Geocities page. Unforutnately, not even a mutant with the ability to break the fourth wall can keep a carload of killjoys from blurting out the book's biggest twist. In reaction to this, he more or less freaks out. (As many have pointed out, the plot of the comic was based on something that happened IRL.)

After kittenghost1 posted the panels in a Harry Potter subreddit, a discussion immediately kicked in regarding what made Deadpool a hypothetical Hufflepuff instead of, say, a Slytherin or Gryffindor.

Luckily, Nick Filardi, the colorist for that particular issue, picked up on the thread and immediately went to work on clarifying the matter - and reinforcing Hufflepool as canon.

"Fun fact: I'm the colorist for that story and originally made him a Gryffindor," Filardi posted. "We went back and forth on a couple rounds of corrections and the editors insisted Hufflepuff. That isn't a casual joke. That's deliberate Deadpool canon."

So what made Filardi want to make the talented Mr. Pool a Gryffindor at first? "I just assumed, you know ... bravery? Takes guts to do what Deadpool does," he said.

Fair enough, but that begs another question: what's the reasoning behind sorting the Merc with a Mouth into Hufflepuff instead? As Filardi answered one fan on Twitter:

His answer, of course, is in reference to a line the Sorting Hat sings about the traits that Hufflepuff House holds dearest - inclusivity.

"Said Hufflepuff, 'I'll teach the lot
And treat them just the same.'"

Well played, Mr. Filardi, well played.
