The very first DLC for Fallout 4 called Automatron is about to go official, and here's everything it has in store for all the casual and die-hard settlers out there.

Straight off the bat, it's one out of three upcoming add-ons, with the two being the Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor. With that out of the way, let's go ahead and proceed to the nitty-gritty details.

The Story

A throng of robots that are up to no good have made their way to the Commonwealth. Players are given the task to kick some mechanized hiney and take names and create their own cyborg friends.

"The mysterious Mechanist has unleashed a horde of evil robots into the Commonwealth, including the devious Robobrain. Hunt them down and harvest their parts to build and mod your own custom robot companions. Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices," Bethesda says.

It's sort of like Pokémon, but the companions aren't exactly as cute.

What's interesting here is the mention of the Mechanist and how he's made out to be the villain. As everyone knows, he made his first appearance in Fallout 3, having a rivalry with the AntAgonizer.

Basically, the description raises a lot of questions. For one, he was sold off at the ripe age of 15 to a caravan merchant and settled down in the Canterbury Commons a few years after, so how did he end up in Boston? Perhaps he got on another caravan and traveled between games.

The other noodle-scratcher here is why is he a villain? After all, he did become the Mechanist to protect the town against the AntAgonizer. However, there's a slim chance that he just had a change of heart, or maybe this is a completely different Mechanist.

Lastly, the Mechanist is in The Superhuman Gambit quest in Fallout 3, and in that scenario, he asks the player to take on the role of a superhero in the guise of the Awesome-Claw, Super Humongous, Shadow Bite or Brilliant Shadow. Could the Automatron DLC have something along those lines as well?

At any rate, questions like these will be resolved once the add-on rolls out.

Quests And Achievements

Five achievements have been revealed thanks to an image acquired from the Steam version of the game that Xbox Achievements uploaded.

1. Robot Hunter

2. The Most Toys

3. Headhunting

4. Mechanical Menace

5. Restoring Order

If these names make it through the drawing board, then they fit right in with the "Robots, Robots and More Robots!" description of Automatron.

The requirements to complete these achievements have also confirmed at least three quests: Headhunting, Mechanical Menace and Restoring Order. Needless to say, the deeds that they're referring to are fairly straightforward.

As for The Most Toys and Robot Hunter, they can be accomplished by building 10 robot mods and unlocking 10 robot mods respectively.

Price And Release Date

The Automatron DLC will come with a $10 price tag sometime in March. It'll be available across the PS4, Xbox One and PC.  Unfortunately Bethesda has not announced any specific release date for Automatron but we will update you as soon as we hear from the company.

Wasteland Workshop will follow suit in April and cost $5, and Far Harbor will then join the ranks in May and hold customers back by $25.

To get everything nice and ready, gamers can avail the Fallout 4 Season Pass for $50 and get the three expansions in one fell swoop.

Fallout 4 Creation Kit

Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Game Studios Todd Howard told Game Informer in an interview that the Fallout 4 modding tool is set to launch. It's expected to see the light of day sometime in April, the same month as the Wasteland Workshop. Now that's a pretty swell twofer.

It will first arrive on the PC and go live on the consoles a month after.

"We want to get it up on PC and have it work. It'll probably be a good month before it hits Xbox One, and another month for PlayStation 4," Howard said.

Oh, and it's free.

Fallout 4 Patch 1.4

Bethesda released patch 1.4 for the PC version of Fallout 4, and it came with a slew of tweaks across the board, particularly support for Automatron. However, it has yet to land on the PS4 and Xbox One.

To put two and two together, the update will come before the first DLC will. That just gives an idea of when the add-on will actually hit the shelves.

Even though the anticipated major changes to the Survival Mode are not part of this patch, they are underway. Bethesda describes it as a "complete overhaul."
