The last time there was so much rumor and speculation about casting a Marvel character was... what, Captain America? Every 20-something male actor in Hollywood was supposedly up for the role of Steve Rogers before Chris Evans nabbed it.

These days, the Marvel rumor mill is grinding away like mad on "Doctor Strange." Among the many, many names seen mentioned as supposedly in the running for Marvel's master of magic include Johnny Depp, John Hamm, Justin Theroux, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joaquin Phoenix, Mads Mikkelsen, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and more.

Today, add another name to the list: 31-year-old Jack Huston. Best known as Richard Harrow on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," Huston is in serious contention to take on the billowing cape of the Sorcerer Supreme, according to ThisIsInfamous.

Neither Marvel nor Huston's agent will comment on the rumor, which is exactly what you'd expect until someone signs on the dotted line. ComicBookMovie points out that Huston was one of several actors considered for Peter Quill in "Guardians of the Galaxy," so he's already on Marvel's radar.

Huston was most recently seen in "American Hustle" and next year will star as Mr. Wickham in "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." "Doctor Strange," something of a pet project for Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, will be directed by horrormeister Scott Derrickson. Principle photography is expected to begin in spring of 2015 for a "Phase Three" (aka, post-"Avengers 2") release on July 8, 2016.
