Although PC Fallout 4 players got a patch fixing a few issues and adding some new features to the game last month, console owners had to wait until this week to get the new update.

However, that update will fix some bugs in the game, as well as prepare it for the first piece of DLC that arrives later this month.

Patch 1.4 fixes a variety of bugs, including lingering screen effects after using a scope on a weapon. The patch also fixes some problems reported with quests including the "Rocket's Red Glare" mission glitch that made it impossible to dismiss companions after completing the quest. There's also a fix for "Kremvh's Tooth," which was not spawning correctly, as well as a problem with "Airship Down," where enemies stopped spawning.

Other fixes include problems with the Pip Boy menu: now, the Pip Boy won't become invisible when swimming and won't get stuck while in Power Armor in first person.

Most importantly, though, patch 1.4 prepares the game for add-ons, including the first piece of DLC, "Automatron," that comes out at the end of March. In that additional game content, players get tasked with taking on a group of rogue robots to harvest their parts to create their own new robot companions.

"The mysterious Mechanist has unleashed a horde of evil robots into the Commonwealth, including the devious Robobrain," writes Bethesda on its website. "Hunt them down and harvest their parts to build and mod your own custom robot companions. Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices."

The "Automatron" DLC retails for $9.99, but players can also purchase it, along with future DLC, in a season pass for $49.99. After that, Bethesda will release a larger add-on, "Wasteland Workshop" next month, with the story-driven DLC "Far Harbor" landing on PCs and consoles in May.

Patch 1.4 arrives on consoles this week, as confirmed by Bethesda:

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
