The race to be recognized as the industry's best pickup truck flared anew upon the announcement from Chrysler Group that it just gave its diesel heavy duty pickup a boost on its torque. The car is now billed by the company as the best-in-class when considering on the vehicle's power pulling feature.

The 3500 model features an enhanced torque rating that measures at 15 lb.-ft. to as much as 865 lb-ft. with the payload reaching up to 7390 lbs. Adding it all up while maintaining its max tow rating that measures at 30,000 lbs. make the truck absolutely the best in class.

The rest of the powerful lineup is carried on from what the Ram has offered last year. Its base HD mill is the gasoline-fed V8 of 5.7 liters with hp of 383, 400 lb-ft. and 6-speed automatic. When boosted, these could reach 6.4 liter V8 with hp of 410 and 429 lb-ft. The 6.7 liter Cummins diesel also has three trims which would start at an hp of 350 and 660 lb-ft. with a manual gearbox of six speeds. When a buyer would opt for the six-speed auto of 68RFE, he would get an hp of 370 and 800 lb.-ft. The final trim is the updated, top of the line version of hp 385 and 865 lb.-ft. that comes with a six-speed automatic transmission of Aisin.

"Ram maintains leadership throughout its pickup line by offering best-in-class fuel economy," says chief of Ram Bob Hegbloom.

Fans claim that features such as towing, torque and payload are the important components of heavy-duty trucks. According to Mike Cairns, Ram truck engineering director, Ram has "intelligently engineered a better truck than our competitors, including a 30,000 lb. towing monster."

After its claim of the best-in-class title, Ram's heavy-duty truck moniker finds a challenger in Ford. The "heavy-duty" title dispute, which goes back to the middle of July, is being contested by Ford as it proudly exclaims that the 2015 model of F-450 and its 4WD can tow an impressive 31,200 lbs. This makes Ford's bet the real top contender of the heavy-duty trucks title.

Moreover, Ford said that its F-450 model, which in essence belongs to the class 4 category, can also fit in the class 3 classification due to the fact that Ford excluded the optional features in its calculation. This fact somehow gives it the basis for sustaining the competition against the Ram 3500 which belongs to the smaller class 3 pickup category.

The Ram pickup has a trio of options such as the 5.7 liter Hemi V8, the gasoline-powered Hemi V8 of 6.4 liters, and the 6.7 liter Cummins turbodiesel engine.
