Users of Windows Phone handsets who are using Spotify might be saddened to know that the company will no longer update the version of its app for Windows Phone.

Lately, Spotify has confirmed that it has already halted the support for its Windows Phone app. As such, users should no longer look forward to see any new version of this app to be rolled out down the road.

Twitter user Alessandro S. has posted a tweet containing the email he received from Spotify customer support representative Tsvetan. The representative says in his email that "Windows 10.8 is no longer supported.

"You can still use our Spotify application on the associated devices but it will no longer receive any further updates and download the application," reads the email. "We apologize for the inconvenience."

This means that if Windows Phone handset users will find any issues about the app, for instance bugs, then Spotify will no longer push out a patch to solve it.

This likewise implies that the update Spotify rolled out for the Windows Phone app back in February 2015 was already its last update.

While Windows Phone users can still access the app, they will no longer enjoy the most recent features that Spotify is going to add into the Android and iOS versions of the music streamer.

With regard to a Windows 10 version of the music streamer, Spotify can't say whether any specific release will be out.

"[B]ut, as soon as there is something new, you will receive a notification on your device that an update is available and prompted to download it," adds the email.

At the moment, the music streaming app has already gained 75 million users; with 20 million of the total number of users are paid subscribers. Meanwhile, 55 million users are using free yet ad-supported tier of Spotify.

In February, Tech Times reported that Spotify's archrival Apple Music has grown quickly since it was first introduced around eight months ago. The company has recently confirmed that the music streaming service has already amassed more than 11 million subscribers to date.

This has brought up the speculation by quite a few observers that Apple's streaming service could outshine Spotify, the current leader in today's music streaming wars.

It took more than five years for Spotify to attain what Apple Music has accomplished in only more than six month since its introduction.
