The HTC Desire EYE is getting Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in the UAE, and the AT&T version of the handset in the United States should get the same treatment soon.

The update for the Desire EYE in the UAE not only brings Marshmallow to the mix, but also upgrades the handset to HTC's latest Sense 7.0 UI. The same update is reportedly rolling out in Europe as well, in various countries including Italy.

The news comes from HTC Blog Italia (unofficial HTC blog), which reports (translated) that the update comes in two parts, with two separate files. According to the publication, the first file aims to prepare the handset for the update, while the second file will actually bring a taste of Marshmallow. The second file weighs 1.59 GB.

When it comes to the U.S., the HTC Desire EYE launched in November 2015 as an exclusive to AT&T and is expected to receive the update to Marshmallow and Sense 7.0 sometime later this month.

As a reminder, the HTC Desire EYE originally made its debut back in 2014 as a camera-centric smartphone running Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The handset later received an update to the newer Lollipop version of Android, and now it's getting even more treats with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The latest update should notably improve performance, stability, battery life and overall experience.

The HTC Desire EYE is considered one of the best HTC smartphones currently available on the market, offering solid specs and features for its price point. The handset sports a similar design language to the One M8, features a 5.2-inch Full HD (1,080p) display and packs a Snapdragon 801 processor under the hood, paired with 2 GB of RAM.

Other specs include 16 GB of internal storage space, expandable up to 128 GB via microSD, a 2,400 mAh battery, and HTC BoomSound speakers. The highlight of the HTC Desire EYE, however, is in the camera department, as the smartphone boasts 13-megapixel shooters on both its front and back. This proved to be a major selling point for selfie lovers, as a 13-megapixel front camera is not all that common.

The latest update to Android 6.0.1 and HTC Sense 7.0 should make the device even more attractive, especially since it's considered affordable for the specs it packs. The handset is currently available for $358.99 outright from AT&T, with no annual contract, or $11.97 per month with an installment plan.
