After confirming last fall that System Shock 1 was getting a remaster, developer Night Dive Studios gave gamers a bit more to go on than the solitary screenshot it shared later. This time, there's some pre-alpha footage of game.

Night Dive Studios dumped a 2-minute-long peek at the System Shock remaster on YouTube Monday. The game still doesn't have a release date, but now at least there's something that's a little less taxing on the imagination than a screenshot.

"After 20 years, we are remastering and re-imagining the original System Shock," stated Night Dive Studios in the video's description. "We will keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine (Unity)."

Last November, Night Dive Studios founder Stephen Kick revealed in an interview with Fast Company that the team was working on a remaster of System Shock 1.

Kick was discussing his company's model for licensing IPs when he revealed that the studio bought the System Shock franchise instead of leasing the rights to it. Furthermore, he revealed that the studio was turning Robert Waters, System Shock's original concept artist, to re-imagine the game for the HD remaster.

"Seeing the difference between his artistic abilities back then compared to now, and his ability to reinterpret those ideas, it's just been really exciting for us," said Kick.

Back then, Kick indicated that the System Shock remaster would see both PC and console releases. It's unclear now exactly how widely the game will be available, but things should come to light when the studio begins to look for more funding.

Night Dive Studios plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the Unity Engine remaster of the 1994 cult classic. Once that gets off of the ground, gamers should know a lot more about what to expect and where the studio's ambitions life.

For now, going by the pre-alpha footage of the game below, it seems the System Shock remaster will be an ambition effort for the little studio.
