Swedish car brand Volvo introduced the new XC90. This vehicle is finally ready for sale after years of development, which cost the company some $11 billion to finish.

The XC90 is said to be the brand's most important car today as it is the first model to use Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. It's a new lightweight platform that will support upcoming models.

Volvo's future coupes, estates and saloons will feature the SPA platform. This new technology enabled Volvo to design the SUV as more spacious and more flexible for the buyers. The vehicle was made more comfortable and agile similar to a smaller sedan.

Volvo has not announced official numbers and statistics yet but the SUV is expected to be eco-efficient with the "two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine with an electric motor." Volvo said power is around 400-hp and carbon dioxide emissions only at 60g/km. Volvo is also releasing a hybrid version complete with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engines.

As for the exterior of the new Volvo XC90, this model will show off Volvo's latest logo, new grill badge, and T-shaped running lights---all of which will be seen in future Volvo vehicles.

As expected, Volvo has enhanced the interior with a more luxurious design. Inside the SUV, one will find a touchscreen display on the dashboard where the car's functions are controlled.

The SUV's safety features will include auto brake at intersection and run-off road protection. The latter allows the vehicle to detect if driver is turning across the path of a car and automatically hits the brakes to prevent collision. The auto brake feature absorbs energy and holds passengers in place during a possible crash.

Volvo may be a Swedish brand but a Chinese company known as Zhejiang Geely Holding Group now owns it. The CX90 SUV will be the first vehicle to be released under the new ownership.

"We think it's absolutely necessary to come back to that territory. With this car, we will take a big step," Volvo Cars Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson said.

Volvo will receive pre-orders starting Sept. 3 for the special edition of Volvo XC90 with a $65,900 price tag. No information yet how much the high-end model will cost.
