Telltale Games announced in December last year that it will be releasing an episodic game series for Batman this year, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment.

No details regarding the game were revealed at the time, though most expect the title to follow the usual system of Telltale that has players taking control of the decisions of a character. The events of the game will then be affected by the decisions the player made.

Telltale Games has now revealed more details regarding the game, which will be simply named Batman: A Telltale Games Series, at the SXSW Gaming Expo in Austin, Texas.

In a post on Telltale Games' official blog, it was noted that development on the title has moved swiftly over the past year. The focus is not on in-game visuals though, as similar to other games made by the developer, the writers and designers are spending more time early on the story and script.

This is partly the reason why no scenes from the title were shown during the SXSW Gaming Expo, though Telltale Games confirmed that the premiere for the Batman series will launch this summer.

"Batman is the perfect character for the studio to explore in a Telltale series, giving the team the opportunity to dive deeper into the mind of the man behind the mask," the developer wrote, adding that the decisions Bruce Wayne makes will have an impact once he slips into his Batman suit, and vice versa. The player's decisions will also shape the Gotham that Bruce walks through in the day and the Gotham that Batman defends in the night.

There will also be some scenes in the game where the player can choose to arrive as either Bruce Wayne or as Batman, which will lead to a different set of consequences. Some of the characters will have a deep relationship with Bruce, and their actions are also affected by the decisions Bruce or Batman make.

The title will also be a fresh interpretation of the Batman universe, according to Telltale Games, with no connections to any existing versions of the franchise in video games, movies or comics. Other members of the so-called Bat Family, including Nightwing and Robin, will not be explored, though certain franchise characters such as Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner James Gordon will be present.

The villains for Batman: A Telltale Games Series, however, is being kept a secret until the launch of the game draws nearer.
