The often brutal and gory world of Doom gets a fresh start in just a few months, and that world also includes multiplayer modes that let players dominate their friends.

Bethesda recently released some new details about those six multiplayer modes, along with a trailer that shows what each involves.

"Six modes," writes Bethesda on its blog. "Countless ways to kill. Infinite ways to die. Welcome to Doom multiplayer, which delivers fast-paced and competitive combat in brutal, blood-spattered arenas."

Watch some footage from Doom's multiplayer modes in the following trailer:

The six multiplayer modes are:

Soul Harvest: The goal is to collect the souls of those slain, regardless of who killed them. Souls only stick around for a limited amount of time, so the team that gets a soul first gets the points for it. If only it were that easy, though: opposing teams can steal souls from other teams. This mode also features a demon tune that gives a demon power-up with no time limit: kills from players with that power-up leave behind two souls. Want more? Kill the demon player and score five souls. The team with the most points at the end of the time limit, or the team that reaches a preset score first, wins.

Freeze Tag: Bethesda describes this mode as freeze tag with weapons. It's the same premise as the childhood game, but a lot more entertaining. Instead of dying, opponents freeze, but that means that they'll slide around like slippery blocks of ice, making them potential weapons. The first team to freeze its opposing team, or the team with the most unfrozen players at the end of a time limit, wins.

Warpath: This is the Doom version of King of the Hill, but a lot crazier. There's a single capture point on the map, but it moves around a pathway, with a demon rune marching on its opposite side. This means that players must decide how to proceed: either going after the capture point or the demon rune, while avoiding other players' attacks. Bethesda calls this mode "a nonstop tug of war for domination."

Domination: In this multiplayer mode, there are three static capture points on the map. Players can control those points by clearing out enemies within each zone. Of course, there's a twist: a demon rune will spawn in a random location, but will announce its presence as it happens. So teams must prevent opposing teams from grabbing that rune and getting that advantage in the game.

Team Deathmatch: This mode is exactly what it says: two teams pitted against each other in what is a "straight-up kill-fest."

Clan Arena: This multiplayer mode is all about the last team standing. Once players fall on the battlefield, they're dead and won't respawn. The winner is the team with the most players standing at the end.

Doom releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 13.
