Apple has finally taken the wraps off the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and customers will want to know about the latest tablet. Here is everything you need to know on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Hardware Specs

Display - The new offering from Apple has a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. Just like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the smaller iPad Pro also has a fully laminated display with antireflective coating and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.

The new Apple tablet also supports True Tone, which is not available on the original iPad Pro. True Tone dynamically adjusts the white balance of the screen based on the lighting in the room.

Processor - The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has the same A9X processor and M9 coprocessor as found on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Camera - The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has better camera than its bigger sibling. The new tablet has a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and it is the first iPad to feature True Tone flash. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with Retina Flash.

Unlike the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the smaller version of the tablet is also capable of recording 4K video.

Apple introduced Live Photos in the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus. The novel feature shows a quick 3-second video of a photo that has been taken. The short video includes 1.5 seconds before an image was clicked and 1.5 seconds after it was snapped.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro is the first iPad to incorporate Live Photos.

Storage - The new tablet will be available in 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB internal storage options.

Speakers - Just like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro also has four speakers: two at the bottom and two at the top. The iPad Air 2 has dual speakers.

Form Factor - The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has the same form factor as the iPad Air 2. It measures 9.4 x 6.6 x 0.24 inches and weighs 0.96 pounds.

The same form factor for the iPad Air 2 and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro means that customers can use the same case for both the tablets. However, an iPad Air 2 case will block two speakers of the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Battery - The 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a 38.5 Whr battery while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a small 27.5 Whr rechargeable battery. However, Apple claims that both the tablets offer 10 hours of battery life.

Colors - Apple is offering the new tablet in four color options: Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold.

Touch ID - The latest iPad Pro will have Apple's fingerprint recognition technology built in the Home button of the device for easy unlocking.

Accessories

Apple Pencil - In September, Apple introduced its first stylus called Apple Pencil, which is meant to increase the productivity for iPad Pro users. Owners of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro will be able to use the Apple Pencil with the new tablet.

Smart Keyboard - The big iPad Pro comes with a Smart Connector, which allows easy connectivity to the Smart Keyboard. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro also has a Smart Connector.

Price and Availability

The Wi-Fi only model of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a starting price tag of $599, while the base Wi-Fi and LTE model of the tablet will cost $729 in the United States.

Apple will start taking orders for the new 9.7-inch tablet from Thursday, March 24. The company will start shipping the tablet from March 31.
