Verizon has started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update for the LG V10.

LG announced the LG V10 in September 2015, and the smartphone hit the shelves in October 2015. The LG V10, which has many similarities with the LG G4, is considered a more powerful version of the G4.

The LG V10 comes running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, but Verizon has confirmed an Android 6.0 Marshmallow over-the-air (OTA) software update for the mobile phone.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your LG V10. Android 6.0 Marshmallow improves your mobile experience with new battery-smart features and enhanced app permissions that give you even more control," says Verizon.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the latest Android operating system, and smartphone owners have been waiting for a software rollout for months. The update brings a number of new features to Android devices, such as Now on Tap, Doze mode, Silent mode and more.

"Now on Tap anticipates what you need in the moment. With a simple tap, you can get cards with useful information and apps that feed your need to know," says Android.

Doze mode puts a mobile phone in sleep mode and enhances battery life. App Standby mode is another battery-management feature that detects seldom-used apps and reduces their impact on the phone's battery.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow also brings improved control and security features to devices. With the new software, smartphone owners can define what they want to share with an app. The new operating system also offers a fingerprint scanner for advanced device security.

Even though Verizon has confirmed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the LG V10, it may take some time before the new operating system is fully rolled out to all LG V10s on the network.

Customers can go to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > Check for Update to see if they have received the latest software.

Verizon recommends that LG V10 customers be connected to a Wi-Fi network with a strong connection to enable a smooth download of the update. LG V10 owners should also ensure that their mobile device has a full charge before starting the download.

Ensure your battery is fully charged before installing begins. Verizon has not confirmed the size of the update; however, it may be around 1 GB.

LG V10 owners on AT&T and T-Mobile will now hope they receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sooner rather than later.
