In the large world of video game genres, perhaps no game type has evolved more over the years than sports video games.

Videographer Michael Bromberg edited together this two-minute retrospective on how John Madden Football from 1988 has evolved all the way to Madden NFL 15 today. We've come a long way, baby.

Bromberg uses the final drive of the '98 playoff match between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers to bind the clips together, including the original play-by-play calls from John Madden and Pat Summerall from the actual game.

Madden is a game franchise with a long history. Since Electronic Arts first began developing and publishing the game, the series has sold over 100 million copies. It became a mainstay of sports video games and college campuses everywhere, starting with the first few installments on the Sega Genesis console from 1990 on. It has appeared on every console generation since, up to the recently-released Madden NFL 15 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The evolution of the game's visuals, complexity and features mirrors the overall evolution of video games on consoles, from the 16-bit fourth generation of games to the current high-definition, always-online and media-hub gaming machines.

According to the decription on YouTube, Bromberg made the video with the help of Mr. Bobsdojo and Adam Bianchi.
