Critics were not really too happy about Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" even if some believe that the film was worth seeing, if at least to watch the two DC Comics superheroes in one film duking it out in an epic battle.

It seems, however, that it's not just bullets and evil super villains that the two heroes can win against, because scathing criticism did not stop the film from raking in a whopping $170.1 million in the box office in North America alone during its opening weekend.

That number puts "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as the sixth spot for the biggest domestic opening weekend and at the top among DC films. The movie also earned $254 million overseas, pulling its Easter weekend box-office earnings worldwide to $424.1 million.

Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor didn't even have to use their influence to convince people to watch the film, nor did they have to buy out entire cinemas. It was simply the fans and excited moviegoers who made it happen, even if some had mixed reactions to it.

Nevertheless, it's all good news for Warner Bros. and DC, since $250 million was spent to produce the film and another $150 million to market it.

"We're very proud of what we've made before in the DC world and what's coming in front of us is really exciting," Warner Bros. Distribution Executive Vice President Jeff Goldstein said.

This only means that "Justice League" could achieve the same, if not bigger, success that "Dawn of Justice."

No one even has to doubt if the stand-alone "Wonder Woman" film set for a 2017 release would do well. Regardless of whether critics and fans alike gave good reviews or scathing criticism, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman only drew praise.
