Apple appears to have another hit on its hands with its soon-to-be-released iPhone SE. A new report claims the four-inch iPhone has received 3.4 million preorders in China ahead of its global release on March 31.

Tim Cook confirmed that iPhone sales in 2016 would see their first-ever decline in almost 10 years since the original model went on sale in 2007. In an effort to soften the blow, Apple has veered from its annual fall iPhone introduction and unveiled the iPhone SE — its first four-inch iPhone since 2013's iPhone 5s — which will be released globally on March 31. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have announced their release dates and pricing plans for the phone.

The iPhone SE features a very similar design to that of the iPhone 5s, as had been rumored, but includes most of the internals from Apple's current flagship iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The only major feature Apple left out is the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus' 3D Touch display, which is exclusive to the company's top tier smartphones. Likewise, the company doesn't even offer the new technology in either of its recently-launched 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablets.

The iPhone SE has been available for preorder ahead of its March 31 global release, and it appears that Apple's new four-inch iPhone is a hit, especially in China. CNBC is reporting that Chinese retailers claims that preorders for the iPhone SE have already exceeded 3.4 million units.

The data shows that the most popular color iPhone SE preordered in China is the Gold model with reportedly 1.3 million preorders, followed by the Rose Gold iPhone SE with 1.2 million.

Apple does not typically announce preorder numbers for new iPhones, instead usually issuing a press release after opening weekend to announce how many new iPhones it sold.
