Kraft Food Groups Inc. is recalling thousands of American Singles after the company announced that a supplier did not properly store an ingredient.

Kraft is voluntarily recalling the 7,691 cases of the cheese in the 12, 16 or 24-ounce sizes with "Best When Used By" dates of Feb. 20, 2015 and Feb. 21, 2015. The dates can be found at the bottom of the package. The package codes of the affected cheese all start with 0 21000 then have the suffixes 60464 7, 61526 1 or 63360 9.

The recall affects four varieties of the pasteurized cheese that were produced at Kraft's Springfield, Missouri facility.

The supplier failed to store the American Singles according to Kraft's temperature standards, which could spoil the product or cause food-borne illnesses. While this is unlikely, the Illinois-based company is taking precautionary measures.

"Consumers who purchased any of these products should not eat them," the company says.

Consumers who purchased the cheese with the recalled dates should return it to the store for an exchange or refund. Those with questions can call Kraft's Consumer Relations at 1-800-396-5512.

According to Kraft, there have been no reported complaints of illness.
