Navigation app Waze is among the most popular ones in the market today, as its ease of use and long list of features allow users to travel with peace of mind.

Through a post on its official blog, Waze revealed that it is adding another feature to its app, which will focus on the safety of the driver and passengers.

When on the road, drivers sometimes forget the speed limit of the streets that they are going through, and in some cases, drivers are simply unaware of the speed limits. Because of this, drivers can face fines after being issued tickets by the authorities, or worse, they could get into accidents for driving too fast.

Waze will be looking to prevent such things from happening by notifying users if they are going over the speed limit of the street that they are in. The feature, which will utilize the speedometer that is already available in the app, will be able to inform drivers of the speed limits of unfamiliar places, or for streets that have different speed limits depending on the time of day or season.

To be able to enjoy the feature, users will not have to change or activate anything in the app. Once drivers go over the speed limit, a visual alert will be displayed on the app's speedometer, and it will remain there until the driver drops the vehicle's speed to below the speed limit. A sound alert will also be played.

On the app's settings, users can choose whether to be informed that they have gone over the speed limit once they reach it or once they have exceeded it by 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent.

The feature, however, is not yet available in the United States, as it is being rolled out initially to Belgium, Austria, Colombia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, El Salvador, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago. There is no word yet on when the feature will arrive for users in the country, but it should be soon.

Another new feature for Waze that was recently added through an update is Planned Drives, which is currently exclusive for iOS users. The feature allows users to set their commute in advance and be informed on what time they should leave, based on traffic conditions on the day of their planned trip.
