More women are suffering from dysmenorrhea, a severe pain experienced during the menstrual period, and the only treatment available are pain relievers. Whoopi Goldberg may have the solution to this burden women experience every month: medical marijuana.

The "Sister Act" star launched her medical marijuana line specifically for women who suffer from menstrual pains.

"I am thrilled to partner with the amazing Maya Elisabeth to provide women an alternative for relieving the pain and discomfort associated with menstruation," Goldberg said.

"This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief," she added.

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common gynecologic complaints in young women and it affects about 40 to 70 percent of women of reproductive age. Approximately 10 percent of women report severe symptoms. Current medicines that can alleviate discomfort are pain relievers.

Goldberg added that the only products available today contain ingredients that people could not even pronounce.

Medical Marijuana-Instilled Products

The new company, Whoopi & Maya, established with co-founder, Maya Elisabeth, offers four products: a bath soak, a tincture, a balm and raw cacao that may be enjoyed as is or as a drink. The products are infused with THC or CBD and they aim to alleviate pain and cramps from menstrual periods. All of the products were made from organic and fresh ingredients.

Elisabeth founded Om Edibles in 2008 and has won numerous High Times Cannabis Cup awards. She is now known as one of the best creators of medical cannabis products in California.

Unlike medicines prescribed for menstrual pains that contain ingredients people are not familiar with, the company used ingredients that are well-known by many, including organic oils, essential oils and organic butter.

Other Celebrities With Their Own Line Of Cannabis Products

Since medical marijuana has been approved in some states, celebrities launched their own products containing medical marijuana.

Rapper Snoop Dog launched his own lineup of cannabis products in 2015. Known as Leafs by Snoop, the product line includes flowers, edibles and concentrates.

Comedian Tommy Chong launched his medical marijuana line. The actor suffered from cancer in 2012 and thanks to cannabis, he has surpassed his ordeal with the killer disease.

Another cancer survivor, Grammy Award winner Melissa Etheridge, fought the effects of chemo with cannabis. Her new business focuses on infusing wine with cannabis.
