OnePlus just announced a price cut for its Onyx variant smartphone. The model, originally launched at Rs 16,999 ($257), now displays a discounted price of Rs 14,999 ($226) on Amazon India. The other variants, Champagne and Ceramic, are still intact at Rs 16,999 and Rs 22,999 ($347) respectively.

The OnePlus X Onyx made big news at its launch and was noted for its sleek appearance, highlighted by the glass and metal design and a fingerprint scanning system. However, it faced major issues with the invite system, which its Chinese manufacturers eventually dropped to ensure the difficult feature doesn't get in the way of sales.

At its budget price, the OnePlus X offers a 5-inch full HD (1080p) screen with a 441ppi pixel density, powered by 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and 3 GB RAM. The handset comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera housing an LED flash and an 8-megapixel front camera. The internal storage capacity of 16 GB is also paired with an SD card slot for additional space. The 2,525 mAh battery certainly has more room for improvement, but the Alert Slider switch is not a bad touch from the makers. The Lollipop OS-based model is slated for a Marshmallow upgrade soon.

Sadly this smartphone failed to live up to the expectations, facing stiff competition with Moto X Play along with its own sibling OnePlus One whose 64 GB model now sells for less than Rs 20,000 (over $300). Launched in October 2015, this model had represented the cheapest offer at its original price and, with the further price cut, it has come at par with entries like LeEco Le 1s, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and Lenovo K4 Note. However, the company has now claimed to never introduce such cheap models in the market.

OnePlus is reportedly ready with its next project, already known as the OnePlus 3. The Snapdragon 820 processor is said to be the notable upgrade, along with the bumped up 4 GB RAM. The latest creation is said to hit the market by June this year.

If you want to take advantage of the current OnePlus X Onyx offering, head over to Amazon India now!
