T-Mobile has recently pushed out a big software upgrade for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, bringing Samsung Pay updates, system enhancements and enhanced security, among other things, to the Samsung smartphones.

One of the new features included in the update is Enhanced Voice Services, a next-generation voice technology that will further upgrade the network experience for T-Mobile customers.

The LG G5, which just launched on April 1, will be compatible with EVS right out of the box, joining the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge as the only three smartphones so far that work with the technology.

However, what does EVS actually do? First, the technology makes improvements to the reliability of voice calls that are being made in locations where the signal is weak. This would mean that the chances of dropped calls will be even further lowered.

EVS will also provide T-Mobile subscribers with even higher-fidelity voice calls compared with the HD Voice, or Voice over LTE, calls that the Un-carrier rolled out back in 2013. Compared with HD Voice calls, which were first adopted in the United States by T-Mobile, EVS utilizes a broader audio frequency range that leads to more realistic voice audio within calls.

The advantages that EVS provides will be available to subscribers at more times and in more places, with the technology able to be applied to voice calls whether they are made through T-Mobile's LTE network or through a Wi-Fi connection. In addition, subscribers will be able to enjoy the technology even if the person on the other end of the call is using a device that is not EVS-capable.

T-Mobile believes that it could be the first carrier in the world to deploy such a technology, with EVS tagged to go through the same path as did the company's VoLTE feature. Other carriers are just now adopting VoLTE technology, while T-Mobile has already moved on to the more advanced and powerful EVS.

The carrier is planning to make EVS available to seven smartphones by the end of the year, though T-Mobile did not state the other four devices that it is planning to roll out the technology to.
