The first major patch for The Division has already been rolled out, but an array of reports from Xbox One gamers are cropping up on the Web saying that the most recent update to the game has wiped out their characters.

Quite a few players on Xbox One (PS4 and PC gamers appear not to be affected by this problem) took to Reddit to report that their characters have been wiped-out upon logging into the game just after the update.

“I’ve seen several reports of players’ character getting wiped out, including myself, after the patch,” says Reddit user Ramm94, adding that his first login seemed fine.

“The next login attempt, I received a delta or mike error while attempting to login, so [I] reset the game, and then my character is gone,” he says.

He goes on to say that he had reset the console to clear the cache, but it did not resolve the issue.

He says the experience is entirely “unacceptable” as he had poured more than a hundred hours into the character.

“I was level 75 dz and 12 days worth of game time and my character is gone,” reports another gamer Jeffboyuf.

Hotfix

Following several reports about this issue, Ubisoft immediately acknowledged the problems.

Ubisoft has also introduced a hotfix. Players have to make note, though, that the hotfix does not bring back the gamers’ missing characters as this problem necessitates “further investigation.”

Rather, the hotfix brought with it these tweaks into the game:

1. Named enemies in the Challenge mode will now only guarantee one High-End item.
2. The APC won’t take damage from gamers' weapons and the APC’s Mortar weapon will now fire perfectly.
3. The hotfix has enhanced server stability.

Fix Is Coming Soon

Recently, Ubisoft said it has already identified what could have brought The Division character wiping bug.

It also assured players who have been plagued by the issue that their characters are “not gone” and these can be restored. It also promised that a fix is already in the works and should be made available “shortly.”

"The issue was caused by a malfunctioning server that couldn't synchronise character data correctly and corrupted them instead," told Ubisoft to BBC. "The game client was unable to read this corrupted data, and simply assumed that the character didn't exist.”

"Once this has been identified, we were able to restore the server to its normal functions, thus ensuring that the issue will no longer occur for other players,” it added.

It went on to say that once it implements this fix, there will be a server downtime. It is going to inform players once it is ready to perform the fix.

Sad to say, though, that some progress may be lost.

Furthermore, Ubisoft apologized for the inconvenience this bug may have brought to players. It also thanked them for their understanding and patience.
