All of the handsets, starting from the massively expected Samsung Galaxy Note phablet to the new Sony devices, have gone to the event with their own unique offerings that cater to a number of various consumers. Most of them were even rumored and speculated prior to their public announcement.

Here is a short recap of the most popular handset announcements at this year's IFA.

As reported earlier, Samsung finally announces the much awaited Galaxy Note 4 which is the company's new device in its well-loved Note lineup. It features the ubiquitous S Pen in a revamped architecture, giving the consumer an improved grip and increased functionality. It comes with spruced up software in order to achieve an Android L appeal. One of its features, Snap Note, has the capacity to turn photos coming from printed documents and text into an editable version similar to an optical character recognition (OCR). For the processing speed, the device is packed with two powerful versions. One is the Exynos 5433 chipset that has LTE Cat 4 connectivity. The other is the Snapdragon 805 chipset that supports LTE Cat 6. The device is packed with the latest Android 4.4 and carries the proprietary interface nestled on top.

The second Samsung device featured at the event is the Samsung Note Edge. While most of the specs are highly similar with the Note 4, the most compelling feature of this device is the extra pixels of 160 placed on the X axis which earns it a sort of QHD+ display. As a result, it delivers an incredible yet impressive 1600x2560, the highest amount of resolution found on a mobile device to date.

Prior to the IFA event, Sony already announced its latest flagship devices, the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact. As promised, the Xperia Z3 is packed with the familiar quad core MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chip of 2.5GHz which is also found in the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and LG G3. It is a dust-proof and waterproof mobile device that has the rating of IP65/68. The Z3 Compact, as the name implies, has a reduced panel display of 4.6" (compared to the Xperia Z3's 5.2 inches). It also has a lighter build of plastic and a smaller battery at 2600mAh. The biggest common feature is their rear shutter.

Microsoft is another name to reckon with at the event. The company launched the Lumia 830 which is billed as the 'affordable flagship' device. Retail price is set at around €330 ($427). It's available in colors such as orange, green, white, and black.

With so many names to mention but obviously not enough space to accommodate each one of them, this year's IFA event proved once again that it's one of those events that every tech geeks would always mark in their calendar. The list here is only a recap and does not summarize the full event.
