Rock Band 4 is about to get new content and a lot of improvements across the board, along with the most notable feature that players have been clamoring for: synchronous online multiplayer.

Harmonix announced these upcoming developments at PAX East 2016, giving out the details instrument-rocking gamers have been thirsty for.

Online Multiplayer

Synchronous online multiplayer is already pretty straightforward in terms of what it's going to bring to the table, but to go into detail, the folks behind Rock Band 4 say it'll be a modified version of Quickplay.

"We'll be implementing enhancements on the back end to address issues for folks who don't have the same DLC libraries and want a more fluid process for choosing songs together as a band (you all know that one person who would pick a song before you had the chance)," Criss Burki, associate community manager at Harmonix, says.

Long story short, everyone can play with their friends online when the update rolls out this holiday 2016.

Expansion

The first paid expansion pack is set to hit the digital shelves this fall, coming with the function to rate songs and filter them by genre.

While the pricing and other details haven't been revealed yet, Harmonix did say that PDP is going to launch an adapter for the Xbox One version at the same day as the expansion pack. That means Ion drums will be compatible with the game soon enough.

It's also worth mentioning that the Ion drums already work on the PS4 version. This tidbit is just leveling the playing field between the two consoles.

Battleborn DLC

One of the most interesting pieces of news is that the Battleborn DLC is set to go live in May. Even though there's no solid release date for this one yet, it's nice to get an idea of when it'll be up.

Practice Mode

Yet another user-requested feature is coming to the scene, as practice mode is expected to be available sometime in June. This mode will let players focus on certain parts of a song to get the hang of things a lot more efficiently with the option to slow down the speed and whatnot.

New DLC Tracks

Harmonix also detailed three DLC tracks coming this week: "What I Like About You" of The Romantics, "Redneck" of Lamb of God and "Dope Nose" of Weezer.
