Barry Allen learned an important lesson on this week's episode of The Flash: without his superpowers, he cannot protect National City or the people that he cares about.

Please note that the following contains spoilers for this week’s episode of The Flash.

Last week, Zoom forced Barry’s hand, which resulted in the villain gaining all of The Flash’s superpowers. Barry, left without his speed, realized this week that he can never defeat the supervillain - who is now even more super - without his speed.

So what does the team do? Someone decides that the only way for Barry to regain his speed is by recreating another particle accelerator explosion. Let’s not even think about how the last one created all the meta-humans that currently terrorize National City in the first place, or how that first explosion also put Barry in a coma for six months. The team decided that they’re still going to go through with it, regardless of the risk.

Hopefully, the Earth-2 version of Harrison Wells knows a little more about what he’s doing, because a preview of next week’s episode shows the team going through with the drastic plan.

At least the clip shows Barry reaching out to his father for advice, but it seems that he’s going to listen to Harry instead, who understands that the plan is dangerous, but still believes that he can pull it off.

“Harry thinks that between his particle accelerator explosion and what he learned about what the Thawne version of Wells did, he thinks he can contain it and just get Barry his powers back,” said Andrew Kreisberg, the show's executive producer. “But, it’s complicated and dangerous. Everyone, including Barry, has to decide if this is the right way to go, considering the craziness that ensued last time. They’re faced with a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario because Zoom is about to release a reign of terror on the city.”

Next week also brings Cisco vibing with his Earth-2 doppelgänger’s brother and Iris finally opening up to Barry about her feelings for him.

The Flash airs at 8 p.m. EDT Tuesdays on The CW.
