Minecraft is among the most popular games of all time, starting out on the PC and then moving over to the mobile. Now it was only a matter of time before it arrived to the virtual reality scene, and that's just what happened.

Right off the bat, Minecraft: Gear VR Edition offers pretty much the same as what Minecraft: Pocket Edition has in store, and that means it still comes with Creative and Survival modes, skins and, the most important feature of all, multiplayer.

The only difference is that it's VR-ified, making the blocky world more immersive. With that said, it has two viewing modes: a theater view in a virtual Minecraft room and the first-person view, allowing players to get a closer look at their creations.

"Minecraft is a game that you can both figuratively and literally lose yourself in. In fact, my strongest memories of being inside VR are from the time I've spent exploring Minecraft on Gear VR," John Carmack, CTO of Oculus, says.

For the record, it supports cross-platform play with the Pocket version and Windows 10 edition.

As the name of the game suggests, it's for the Samsung Gear VR, so aside from the $99 VR headset itself, fans will need to have a compatible smartphone such as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge plus, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and the Galaxy Note 5.

On top of that, Minecraft: Gear VR Edition will need a paired gamepad to play because it's probably too hard to build a world and bash mob skulls without it. Oculus recommends the SteelSeries Stratus XL controller, and it's available via Amazon for $59.99.

Meanwhile, Mojang says that Minecraft for the Oculus Rift is still under development, so this rollout to the Gear VR is just the start of the game's foray into the virtual reality game.

Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is already available at the Oculus Store with a $6.99 price tag.
