Samsung continues to keep its newer smartphones updated to the latest operating systems, but that does not mean it has forgotten about the older devices.

According to reports, the South Korean OEM has begun pushing out the much-awaited Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for its Galaxy S5 Plus smartphone. The handset in question was released in 2014 and was a variant of the Galaxy S5, the flagship smartphone from the company that year.

The Galaxy S5 Plus was at the time touted by Samsung to be the "world's fastest Android smartphone" as it housed the quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor.

Now close on the heels of bringing the Galaxy S5 smartphone up to date to Android Marshmallow, Samsung has started rolling out the OS for the Galaxy S5 Plus as well, albeit in Germany.

"The Galaxy S5 has seen the Marshmallow update in various markets over the last few weeks, and Samsung is now sending out the latest iteration of Android to the Galaxy S5 Plus," notes SamMobile.

The software update brings the Galaxy S5 Plus from Android 5.0.2 Lollipop (which it received in March 2015) to the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow version. The Android Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S5 Plus that is currently being pushed out is for the model number SM-G901F.

Thanks to the update, the software build number for the Galaxy S5 Plus becomes G901FXXU1CPE1. The build date is May 3, 2016, and the changelist is 7582628.

The software update is being pushed out in phases and, therefore, it may take a while before it makes its way to all users of the Galaxy S5 Plus in the region. Even though the over-the-air (OTA) update is currently being made available in Germany, its arrival suggests that the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update will be rolled out in other countries soon.

The latest software update will see Android users benefit from the Doze mode, Google Now on Tap, support for app permissions, and more.
