All good things must come to an end, and so, too, must the tale of Geralt of Rivia.

The next DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, "Blood and Wine," is the last piece of content that developer CD Projekt Red will create for the game. It will also signal the potential end of The Witcher franchise, as Geralt's tale ends and the developer works on its next big title, Cyberpunk 2077.

Eurogamer spoke with The Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who confirmed that the studio will turn all of its future focus on the new title.

"This is the last thing we deliver and we focus on Cyberpunk," said Tomaszkiewicz.

That doesn't mean that CD Projekt Red will stop supporting The Witcher 3, though. The company still plans on releasing patches to fix any issues that come up with the game and its new DLC.

"The first thing is that we try to fix as many bugs as we can for the second expansion and the main game and we will release a patch before we release the expansion and maybe one later," he said.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released last year with much acclaim. CD Projekt Red followed up the release of the game this year with the first expansion, "Hearts of Stone." Combined with "Blood and Wine," those expansions are larger than the maps of the original base game. That means that players who purchase the DLC definitely get more bang for their buck.

"For the last time become professional monster slayer Geralt of Rivia and explore Toussaint, a remote land untouched by war, where you will unravel the horrifying secret behind a beast terrorizing the kingdom. Blood and Wine is a 30+ hour adventure full of dark deeds, unexpected twists, romance and deceit."

Now, the developer can begin work in earnest on its next title, Cyberpunk 2077, which is bigger and more ambitious than any of The Witcher games. Although the title's release is several years away, in a recent conference call, the company promised that it is a "truly outstanding game."

CD Projekt Red, though, also has a mystery game it plans on working on: perhaps the developer will release more details about that soon.

"Blood and Wine" releases on May 31, as part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt season pass, or as a separate $20 download on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
