With the popularity of the new iOS 8 mobile operating system, millions have already updated their devices. Millions more, however, have had issues downloading the new software.

Among the issues with the installation of the software is the fact that it takes up a lot of storage space and that it takes quite a while to install.

While the new operating system only takes up around 1 GB of storage, downloading the update over-the-air requires at least 5 GB of storage to be free on the device. This is a problem for many users who have that space filled with photos and apps they don't want to delete. This is especially a problem for those that have devices with only 8 GB of storage.

While the issue is frustrating, workarounds have been found, including the ability to install the update through iTunes instead. However, it must be through iTunes 11.4.

There are a number of other issues that have convinced users to wait before installing the new software.

One of those issues is app compatibility. While most apps should work with the new software, there are certainly apps that won't work anymore once iOS 8 is installed.

Another issue for some users is the fact that it will remove any jailbreak that a user may have had. Jailbreaking, while it does void warranty, allows for unapproved apps and other tweaked features to be installed. It is expected to be some time before a jailbreak of iOS 8 is released.

If users do run into issues installing the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, it can be very hard to downgrade back to iOS 7, which is another reason for users to hold off on installing the software until they know all their apps are compatible and that they won't run into any other problems.

iOS 8 became available midweek as a free download for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini, iPad mini Retina and the fifth-generation iPod touch.

Despite the fact that there are some hiccups with the release of iOS 8 on Sept. 17, the software is being hailed as the biggest iOS upgrade since it was first released. New features include group messaging options, allowing users to name conversations, and the new keyboard in the software. Many users, however, are replacing the keyboard with a third-party one now that Apple has started allowing third-party keyboard apps on the App Store. In fact, the hottest free app in Apple's App Store on Sept. 19 was SwiftKey, which got its start as an Android predictive typing keyboard.

Unfortunately, even HealthKit, which is Apple's hotly anticipated health app, had some last minute problems and was not released along with iOS 8. It is expected that the app will make its way onto the software in the very near future.
