There's been a lot of hype around the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with many hailing the iPhone 6 as the biggest upgrade since the iPhone was first released.

Despite this, many are wondering if the upgrades that come with the device are enough to convince them to throw out their year-old iPhone 5s and buy a new iPhone 6. Not only that, but now that the iPhone 6 is out, the iPhone 5s has received a significant price cut, leading many to wonder if they should simply save their money. Here are some of the main differences between the two devices.

Display

One of the biggest upgrades in the new iPhone 6 is the device's display. While the iPhone 5s had a 4-inch display with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels, Apple really stepped up its game with the iPhone 6, now offering a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 750 x 1334.

While this is a clear upgrade, it also means the device is a bit larger, which may be a deal breaker for many who prefer a smaller device.

Processing Power

The iPhone 6 is better than the iPhone 5s in processing power, storage capacity and memory size.

The iPhone 5s made use of Apple's A7 processor, which was certainly a powerful processor, especially because of the fact that it is 64-bit. The iPhone 6's A8 is also 64-bit, but, according to Apple, it is up to 50 percent faster than the A7 chip. For users who expect to run multiple high-power apps at once, it would perhaps be wise to go with the iPhone 6 rather than the iPhone 5s. However, the average user could almost certainly get away with the processor in the iPhone 5s, which is not bad by any means.

Storage and Memory

The iPhone 5s offered users the choice of 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of storage. The iPhone 6 takes this to the next level and now offers users the option of 16 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, which is great for the app junkies among us.

Memory on the iPhone 6 is expected to remain the same at 1 GB of RAM.

Apple Pay

One of the biggest new features of the iPhone 6 is the addition of an NFC chip, which will be heavily used for Apple's new Apple Pay mobile payment system. Apple Pay will be supported by thousands of retail stores around the U.S., and is a much safer way of paying for items.

Conclusions

While these upgrades are certainly nice, for many they aren't at all necessary. If, however, the extra storage or the addition of Apple Pay appeals to you, perhaps it is time to consider dropping the extra money for the iPhone 6.
