To say an episode of Game of Thrones is packed is an understatement. With so many things blowing the minds of viewers everywhere, it's hard not to look forward to the next episode. Come season 7, however, it looks like the HBO show will be shorter than ever, set to have just seven episodes.

The episode number for the coming season of Game of Thrones was revealed by director Jack Bender in an interview. If you're still bummed about "The Door," you can blame him. Bender also directed season 6's most recent episode, "Blood of My Blood."

Bender has experienced helming some of the most memorable episodes of some of the most popular shows to grace the small screen, so there was a lot of excitement when he was called in to direct two episodes for Game of Thrones' 6th season. Actually, he was called in much earlier during the show's first couple of seasons but was unable to commit because of scheduling conflicts. And now that everything has fallen into place, look at how he's destroyed us!

Bender was particularly suited for "The Door" because he knows his way around making time-travel concepts work. Fans also lost Summer, Bran's direwolf, in the episode in a brief but brutal encounter with wights, which the director said was intentional so as not to take away the spotlight from Hodor.

It wasn't easy for him to be involved in the death of a direwolf, however, as Bender said he's a dog (direwolf) person. He even shared how he felt when Ned Stark had to kill Lady, Sansa's direwolf, in season 1.

Asked if he's coming back for season 7, Bender was not able to give a definitive answer.

"They're only doing seven [episodes], and they've got their regulars who have done it forever ... If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that," he said.

Throughout all of its seasons, including the current one, Game of Thrones has had 10 episodes each time.
