Killzone developer Guerrilla Games immediately captured the attention of gamers during E3 2015 when it revealed Horizon Zero Dawn, a post-apocalyptic action role-playing game that takes place in the far-off future.

The reason for this excitement was completely justified. With survival as the game's focus, it goes beyond the concept of man vs. beast or man vs. machine - it combines the two, pitting man with mechanical beast. As the E3 video showed, this often meant that the protagonist, Aloy, would be in a one-on-one death match against a giant mechanical dinosaur. The other reason for this anticipation was its release date: 2016.

We're now in 2016, yet as the months went by, there wasn't much word about Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games. Naturally, fans took this silence to mean that the game was delayed, and unfortunately they have now been proven right. Today, Guerrilla games took to the PlayStation Blog to announce the game has been pushed back to Feb. 28, 2017.

Guerrilla Games said it delayed the game's release so it would be able to live up to the visuals and gameplay quality that its games are known for, adding that the new date grants the company the extra time needed to fully realize its vision for Horizon Zero Dawn.

"It wasn't an easy choice to make; we know many of you have been anxious to play the game since we first announced it. However, we also want to ensure that Horizon Zero Dawn lives up to the visuals and gameplay quality that our games are known for. The new date affords us the extra time required to deliver fully on our ambitious vision for Horizon Zero Dawn," said Guerrilla Games.

While certainly bad news, the announcement did have a few positives. First of all, the decision to delay a game isn't always a bad thing, and Guerrilla Games will certainly need more time if it hopes to live up to expectations. The developer is known for the Killzone, an FPS series, whereas Horizon Zero Dawn is its first-ever RPG.

Second, Guerrilla Games announced it will be more transparent with developments going forward, promising to share more details and videos in the future.

Lastly, the announcement came with a trailer focusing on Aloy. While it doesn't provide too many details about the game, viewers still get to see some action, as well as a pretty climactic ending.
