It happens every year, almost like clockwork: something that's supposed to be a big E3 surprise gets leaked online days before the show starts. It happened last year with Bethesda's Dishonored 2, and the year before that with Nintendo's Super Smash Bros., and it happens roughly every three months with Destiny.

From what's been shown, it looks like Ubisoft was getting ready to dominate E3 2016 with a sequel to the open-world sandbox game Watch Dogs — but thanks to the swirling vortex that is the internet, the cat's already out of the bag. Information about Watch Dogs 2 made its way online a number of times before Ubisoft outright confirmed that the game would be appearing at E3 — seemingly as a way of regaining control of its own reveal.

However, despite all of the leaked info, it's starting to look like Ubisoft was going to announce Watch Dogs 2 ahead of time anyway: the publisher just released a new teaser trailer, one that announces that the game will finally be shown in full on June 8.

So, what exactly has Ubisoft revealed with this new video? Well, here's a better question: have you ever watched someone use a smartphone?

Look, there's nothing wrong with teasing an announcement. For instance, NetherRealm Studios has been known to make its Mortal Kombat announcements a bit too easy to figure out — even so, the teasers still work, mostly because they reveal something that's relevant to the game.

Ubisoft's Watch Dogs 2 teaser, on the other hand, is someone pushing a button for 30 seconds. There's no logo, no cryptic hints at a possible story, nothing — in fact, the video doesn't even reveal when the game itself will debut (that's buried in the video's YouTube description). It's not just boring, it's intentionally unhelpful.

That's not to say that Watch Dogs 2 isn't worth getting excited about — in all actuality, the sequel has a good shot of living up to the potential of the original game. It's just that, as far as teasers go ... well, the Watch Dogs 2 trailer is about as pointless as you can get.

At the very least, fans won't have to wait long to see the game: Watch Dogs 2 is set to make its debut on Wednesday, June 8.
