Microsoft is holding a special event for Xbox One and 360 fans everywhere, giving them free online multiplayer for the weekend, and as a double deal of sorts, Psyonix also chimed in by providing free access to Rocket League to boot.
Straight off the bat, this twofer of a giveaway will let players who haven't tried out Gold membership yet partly experience the benefits of the status and enjoy one heck of a soccer-car game. This will only run starting on 12:00 a.m. PT on June 9 until 11:59 p.m. PT on June 12, so it's recommended to make the most out of it as soon as possible.
Xbox Free Multiplayer Weekend
Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb brought the big news via his official website.
"For the first time ever all Xbox Live members without a Gold membership can play online with friends for FREE during Free Multiplayer Weekend on BOTH Xbox One and Xbox 360," he says.
Needless to say, those who are itching to go head-to-head against thousands of players around the world can't afford to pass this opportunity up.
Rocket League Free Access
Psyonix Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jeremy Dunham spread the word on the official Rocket League website.
"This weekend, we're partnering up with our friends at Microsoft to give players of all Xbox Live membership levels FREE access to Rocket League on Xbox One. Starting this Thursday (June 9), you'll be able download Rocket League at no charge through the end of Sunday (June 12) whether you have Xbox Live Silver or Gold - it's open to all, regardless!" he says.
Just to be clear on that, the game will only be free for the duration of the event. In other words, it's going to have a price tag and become inaccessible to those who haven't purchased it at the end of all the fun.
However, Dunham did mention that the gamers who buy Rocket League during the weekend will get a special 10 percent off it. That'll bring the price down to $17.99.
If this seems familiar, that's because it is. The title also became free for a weekend on Steam back in April, and the developers offered a bigger 40 percent discount at the time.
For those who aren't sold on the game, this is the perfect chance to take it out for a spin and save a few bucks too, so it's probably a good idea to bookmark the Xbox Store link. Just to be ready, that's all.
