With days away from its highly-anticipated WWDC, a new report claims some new iPhone 7 details. The smartphone will reportedly launch with a Deep Blue color choice to replace the current Space Gray.

A new report claims that Apple will introduce a new "Deep Blue" color option when it launches the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro in September. The source says that the color will replace the classic "Space Gray," which is exciting a core group of new smartphone buyers, teenage girls, now that Teen Vogue is reporting the story. This is something very important for the company, which has faced declining sales of its juggernaut iPhone smartphone and lingering questions about its ability to produce and innovate products and services at the rate it did under former CEO Steve Jobs.

One new area that Apple has heavily invested in is fashion. This began when the company hired former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, who is now senior vice president of retail and online stores at Apple. She took much of the criticism of last year's botched Apple Watch launch, which was considered by many to be one of the worst launches of a new "must-have" device from the company. The device went on sale in late April, sold out within minutes and watches weren't available in the company's retail stores until June.

With the launch of the Rose Gold iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in 2015, the company was once again flexing its fashion muscle and appealing to females with the new pink-golden hue. The addition of the new color choice paid off, with some reports claiming Rose Gold iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus preorders accounted for as much as 40 percent of preorders of the smartphones.

Macotakara, which has a pretty good track record of scooping Apple news, is reporting that Apple is planning to replace the Space Gray color option for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro with a new "Deep Blue"-colored choice. The site has provided an image of what the next-generation smartphone will look like with its new blue aluminum case.

While it seems very plausible that Apple may want to launch a new color option to distinguish the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro as new models, as it has done in the past, the Space Gray color is a very popular choice, partly due to it being the only color option that allows for a black bezel on its front but also its darker signature Apple aluminum design.

Replacing Space Gray with a Deep Blue-only option would also alienate some current owners of the Space Gray Apple Watch, which has been one of the most popular colors of the device sold.

As always, it's best to take rumors of unannounced smartphones with a grain of salt. Do you think Apple will introduce a new "Deep Blue" color option to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro and get rid of Space Gray? Let us and our readers know in the comments below.
