Motorola has been rumored to the manufacturer of Google's upcoming Nexus 6 smartphone. New details and an image show the phablet will look like a larger Moto X with a 5.92-inch Quad HD display.
When Google decided to enter the smartphone world with its own handset, the Nexus One in 2010, the company partnered with HTC to build the device. HTC had years of experience building devices for other companies and it also has bragging rights of building the first Android smartphone, the T-Mobile G1 in 2008.
Google decided to spread the love to its other Android licensees and commissioned Samsung to build the Nexus S, which was released in late 2010. When it was time for Google to unveil the most dramatic change to Android, with the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011, the company once again enlisted Samsung to build the Galaxy Nexus.
LG was chosen to build Google's Nexus 4 in 2012 and the Nexus 5 in 2013. Nexus fans have been waiting for Google to announce the Nexus 6 and it looks all but officially confirmed that Motorola will build the first Nexus phablet.
Rumors of the Motorola Nexus 6, which is code-named "Shamu," first began to appear in late July and have continued to circulate around the web. A new report from 9to5Google shows an image of what the 5.92-inch phablet will look like and a run-down of its specs.
The image shows a device that is nearly identical to the new Moto X. The site claims that the Nexus 6 will basically be a scaled-up version of the Moto X with some design tweaks to make the phablet easier to use. The Nexus 6 "Shamu" will reportedly feature a 5.92-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display and run Android L. It will be powered by a 2.6-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage.
The Nexus 6 will pack in a 13-megapixel rear camera that will support recording 4K UHD video and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies. The smartphone will reportedly pack a large 3,200 mAh battery.
