Recent reports have claimed Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Note 7 at an Unpacked event in August. A leaked image for what is reportedly an invite for the occasion reveals it will take place on Aug. 2.

There are certain smartphone series each year that get mobile fans excited about what's next and we're on the verge of seeing two of the biggest players launch their latest and greatest devices in August and September.

It's no secret that Apple is readying its next-gen iPhones; iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro for a September launch. The smartphones are widely expected to share a design similar to that of its predecessors, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. A recent video showed how a third party iPhone 7 case virtually fits the iPhone 6s perfectly, except in the rear camera department.

While Apple is readying its iPhone 7 series, Samsung is reportedly readying a new '7' series device by skipping the Galaxy Note 6 name for Galaxy Note 7, in order to not confuse customers who might think the Note 6 is a generation behind its current Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and it also puts Samsung's naming convention for its current flagships on an even playing field with what is sure to be its biggest competitor, iPhone 7 Plus/Pro.

We recently reported that a teaser image for what is reportedly the Galaxy Note 7 appears to confirm that the phablet will indeed feature a dual-curved edge display. Now, what is reportedly an invite for Samsung's Unpacked event for the device has leaked.

SamMobile received an image of what is reportedly an invite to a Samsung Unpacked event scheduled for "8/2/2016" and with the tagline, "The next edge is just around the corner."

In case you were wondering, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is said to feature a large 5.8-inch 2,560 x 1,440 Quad HD Super AMOLED curved display and run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The phablet will use Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 823 processor, Adreno 530 GPU (graphics processing unit), and very generous 6 GB of RAM.

In terms of the Galaxy Note 7's camera capabilities, sources claim it will employ a 12-megapixel rear camera with Super OIS Plus and 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and video chat. It is expected to be offered in 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options and include a microSD expansion slot.

Reports claim the Note 7 will boast an advanced iris scanner for enhanced security , in addition to its on-board fingerprint scanner, and like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, the new Note will include an IP68 certified waterproof case. The device will reportedly use a large non-removable 4,000 mAh battery and a USB Type-C port will replace the more common microUSB used on almost all Android smartphones.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 news as it becomes available.
