It's 2016 and that means that most PlayStation owners have moved from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4, leaving their older consoles behind to gather dust.

But that doesn't mean that these gamers don't crave replaying certain PlayStation 3 games, but on the newer console. And one of those game franchises that players would probably crave the most on the PlayStation 4 is Kingdom Hearts.

In an interview with GameSpot, Kingdom Hearts 3 co-director Tai Yasue mentioned that Square Enix could eventually work on and release a Kingdom Hearts collection for the PlayStation 4.

"We haven't come to decision and nothing is announced yet," Yasue said. "We listen to our fans and our players and see what they think about it - and, yeah, I'm not ruling it out, but we're not making an announcement just yet."

That answer is, obviously, not a definitive "yes," but it's also not a definitive "no." Fans wanting to see a Kingdom Hearts collection on the PlayStation 4 need to continue speaking out about it.

This would include the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, which are currently only available on the PS3. The only Kingdom Hearts game available on the PlayStation 4 so far is Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue, which doesn't release until December. However, that game should serve as a sort of prologue for Kingdom Hearts 3.

Here's the most recent trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue:

Meanwhile, the company's plans are to continue working on Kingdom Hearts 3. But although the Kingdom Hearts games usually revolve around mixing Disney properties with Final Fantasy characters, the new title won't feature any actual worlds from Final Fantasy and will keep its focus on original and Disney worlds.

"We're not adding any Final Fantasy worlds," Yasue said to GameSpot. "A lot of the original [to Kingdom Hearts] worlds had Final Fantasy characters in them. At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that, we're making original worlds and Disney worlds."

Fans hoping for more news about Kingdom Hearts 3 at this year's E3 are out of luck, though: they won't learn more until the end of the year, probably after the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8.

Earlier this year, Square Enix released Kingdom Hearts Unchained X for mobile devices.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was originally announced in 2013, but it still doesn't have an official release date. The title will release, though, on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
