LG's K family already has five models under its belt, but the OEM recently added another one in the form of the price-friendly LG K3.

The K3 is clearly targeted at a specific demographic, one that takes its first steps into the smartphone world. People on a budget who want an upgrade could also find LG's latest handset a good deal.

The LG K3 is now ready for purchase on Boost and Virgin Mobile's online stores, and it only costs $80. For those who want to see the device up close before shelling some cash for it, the smartphone will be displayed at brick and mortar Boost and Virgin Mobile locations from next week onward.

The device is not a behemoth in terms of specs, but the decent package will get basic tasks done.

Looking under the hood of the K3 we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 CPU and 1 GB RAM in charge of processing power. The default storage capacity is a measly 8 GB, out of which customers get to use 3.1 GB. To make matters even more challenging, the gadget has no microSD slots so you need to be careful when choosing what you load into it.

The IPS screen measures a modest 4.5-inch and it can display resolutions of 854 x 480 pixels.

The power source of the device is a 1,940 mAh battery. Most would frown upon the relatively little capacity, but keep in mind that, albeit the power pack is small, the device as a whole makes due with little power. Thanks to its sub-average specs, the K3 consumes so little power it could run for a full 24 hours and maybe even longer on a single charge.

Mobile photographers will want to stay away from the device, as it sports an unspectacular combo of a 5-megapixel rear sensor and a meager 0.3-megapixel selfie-snapper. Despite their non-stellar resolutions, the cameras take a leaf out of LG's better optics department. Gesture Shot, for example, is a feature that enables users to take selfies by using hand gestures to activate the front camera. Additional camera features embedded in the affordable phone include Selfie Light, which a diffuse light on the photo preview.

An altogether positive aspect of LG K3 is that is comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. This is particularly noteworthy since low-budget smartphones tend to come with older Android OSs.

Boost and Virgin Mobile are no strangers to offering cost-friendly handsets and payment plans for their clients. Check out a comprehensive list of offers from these carriers that Tech Times previously covered.
