Samsung is well known for its ability to release different variants of its flagship smartphones to tie in to an event. With the Summer Olympics set to kick off on Aug. 5, leaked images show the company will commemorate it with a Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition.

We recently reported that Samsung is planning to launch its next-generation Galaxy Note phablet at an event scheduled for Aug. 2. The Galaxy Note 7 will reportedly include a 5.8-inch dual-edge curved display, advanced iris scanner and 6 GB of RAM among its top features. The handset is also rumored to be borrowing features from the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, including a waterproof and dustproof case and microSD expansion slot.

While Samsung is reportedly preparing to build 5 million Galaxy Note 7 devices for its launch, it's also planning a new variant of its Galaxy S7 edge just in time for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Samsung has been a long-time sponsor of the Olympic Games and commemorated the 2012 London Summer Olympics with a Galaxy S3 Olympic Edition and followed up with a Galaxy Note 3 Olympic Edition for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The always-reliable Evan Blass posted images of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition on Twitter. The smartphone is expected to feature the same exact hardware as the current Galaxy S7 edge but use the colors from the Olympic logo as accent colors on the front, back and sides of the device as well as the official logo emblazoned on the rear.

This won't be the first Galaxy S7 edge special edition to be released by Samsung. The company partnered with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and launched a Galaxy S7 edge Injustice Edition in May for fans of the comic book-themed game. The smartphone featured a glossy black body with gold accent colors and a Batman logo stamped on the back below its camera.

There's no word on when Samsung is expected to make the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition official, but considering the games are only a few weeks away, the wait shouldn't be long. It's also unclear if Samsung plans on selling the smartphone to the general public or gifting the device to athletes taking part in the festivities.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new details as they become available.
