No one was seriously injured after an attempt to wheelie around a race track in a Hemi Under Glass took a dangerous turn for Jay Leno and an 80-year-old stuntman.

"My name is Bob Riggle, I'm 80 and I'm in Irwindale," Leno joked from the co-pilot's seat after the stuntman and driver, the real Riggle, when through concussion protocols just seconds after the 2,500-hp Hemi On Glass came to rest at the end of a rollover.

Leno and Riggle were shooting a segment for the second season of CNBC's Jay Leno's Garage, when the two went for a ride around the Irwindale Speedway in California.

"This has been on my bucket list since I was a kid," Leno said of riding shotty in the iconic car. "Ever since it stood up in 1965, the Hurst Hemi Under Glass has been the king of the wheel standers in drag strips all across the country."

With its engine in the boot, the Hemi Under Glass has enough wait to stand on it back wheels while streaking down a drag strip. The car got its name because its Hemi engine is visible under the glass fast back, Leno explained.

It has "a 468-cubic-inch Hemi with 2,500 horsepower," Leno said. "That's right, 2,500 horsepower on two wheels! What could go wrong?"

What went right was the car's rise to its standing position. However, it seemed to have ran out of level track as Riggle tried to land the car back on all fours in time to take the looming turn, and that's what went wrong.

Still bouncing in recovering from wheel standing, the car was in poor position to transition into the turn and the momentum sent it rolling.

The stunt and accident occurred last spring and the season premier aired on June 15. To follow up that thrilling start to the season, Jay Leno's Garage took a look at the "crime fighters" in the show's most recent episode.

The Crime Fighters episode offers an inside look at some of the tactics police use during high speed chases, such as the controversial PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver. Jay Leno's Garage airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CNBC.
