An 11-year-old boy was attacked by a shark on June 25, Saturday afternoon, while surfing at a local beach in North Carolina.

Emergency crew from the Atlantic Beach Fire Department responded to a call about a young boy who was bitten by a shark while surfing west of Fort Macon State Park at Atlantic Beach.

Fire Chief Adam Snyder said the victim had sustained multiple deep wounds on his left foot, though none of them were considered to be life-threatening to the boy. He was immediately taken to nearby Carteret Health Care in order to receive further treatment.

Despite the shark attack, Snyder said there were no plans made to have Atlantic Beach closed off to beachgoers.

According to reports, this is the second time a beachgoer was bitten by a shark in Atlantic Beach this summer alone.

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old man was attacked by a shark while swimming in 3-foot-deep water at Atlantic Beach. The incident left him with deep wounds on his hands and wrist.

In May, an 11-year-old girl and a 57-year-old woman were also bitten by sharks in two separate attacks in Florida.

The girl was swimming in waist-deep water with her cousin at Huguenot Park in Jacksonville when the predatory animal attacked her, injuring her on the back, arm and hand.

A nurse who was at a nearby beach when the incident occurred helped the girl's family cover her wounds until she was able to be taken to a hospital.

Doctors at UF Health Jacksonville treated her for multiple lacerations, including some on her back and one large wound that severed a tendon in her left arm. Her family said the girl also received stitches on her hand and fingers. She spent nine hours in the hospital's trauma unit.

Meanwhile, the 57-year-old woman was enjoying her swim at Vero Beach when a shark suddenly bit her on her upper thigh.

Officials said the victim was attacked on her way back to Costa d'Este Resort. She was taken to the Indian River Medical Center.

Staff members from the hospital described the incident as an exploratory shark bite, wherein the predatory animal only takes one bite at its victim and then swims away afterward.

Rescue workers also responded to a distress call regarding a shark attack at Neptune Beach in Florida last month.

A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a shark while riding a surfboard with his father. He suffered 8-inch lacerations on his right leg.

Police officials said the victim was immediately rushed to UF Health Jacksonville so that he could be given much needed medical aid.

Neptune Beach was closed down following the animal attack.
