A lot of neat things were revealed about Watch Dogs 2 during E3 2016, but there is now confirmation that the game will not be featuring AR mini games.

Talking to GamingBolt, game director Danny Belanger confirmed that AR games are not returning to the Watch Dogs sequel.

"We are offering more city exploration. So as you're walking around the city, you'll open Nethack and you'll discover operation and secrets that will unlock side quests if you want," he said.

Belanger also shared what multi-player mode will be like for Watch Dogs 2, highlighting the development team's focus on achieving seamless co-op.

Hacking is at the heart of the Watch Dogs games so the development team made the sequel in such a way anyone can come into a game and start hacking. Players are part of a hacking group, after all, so they wanted to make it easier for the hackers to work together.

For instance, anyone in a single player game can initiate co-op play with a DedSec ally walking around nearby with just the press of a button.

Belanger added that they made operations specifically meant for co-op play because those pose many challenges for a player, making them realize how good it will be to have a friend around during a game.

In June, Jonathan Morin, Watch Dogs 2's creative director, said that Ubisoft's trademark watchtowers will not be in the game, which could hint at how progression was designed for the game.

In the past, the studio has relied on watchtowers to dictate what a player will do next. The premise is simple: finding a watchtower reveals more of a game's map and players are supposed to clear out the different icons that appeared in the map.

It's not the worst way for a game to progress, but Ubisoft has been using the same formula for almost 10 years now. Not to mention that the system has a different feel when used in, say, Assassin's Creed compared to Watch Dogs. Scaling towers to see where you should head next doesn't feel right in the modern world, after all.

Ubisoft might not be doing away with its watchtowers completely but it is a nice move to step away from the too-familiar setup in Watch Dogs 2.

Watch Dogs 2 comes to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 15.
