People in San Francisco, San Jose, Chicago, and New York can get an extra elf to help them with their holiday shopping. While eBay Now will not come with pointed shoes and a curled hat, the arm of online shopping company eBay said it will do free same-day shipping starting November 24 through Christmas Eve.

Aside from the free delivery service, eBay Now will also extend its shopping hours a week before Christmas. The free, same-day delivery offer will be good for orders that are at least $25.

"With six less shopping days this year, timing is everything. We are offering free delivery for eBay Now to help holiday shoppers who are looking for a convenient way to get whatever they need and love this holiday season, delivered anywhere in about an hour," a representative of eBay said.

Normally, eBay Now charges $5 for delivery but consumers can enjoy the service for free during the said dates and expect the items they bought from a local store to be on their doorsteps after an hour. Making the perk possible for the holiday season are major stores such as Best Buy, Urban Outfitters, and Target.

The free delivery service comes useful especially this year when the shopping season is shortest since 2002. According to Adobe Digital Index, there are only 27 days to shop this year pinned between the Thanksgiving and December 25. This is six days shorter compared to the shopping season in 2012. While the season might be short, online sales are expected to boom by 12 percent but will cut online sales by as much as $1.5 billion.

eBay Now also has a special offering for residents in the San Francisco Bay Area.

"eBay Now also has a tasty treat for San Francisco residents in particular. In addition to a month of free delivery, the company is working with several merchants in San Francisco's famed Ferry Building, including Cowgirl Creamery, Mariposa Baking Co., Stonehouse Olive Oil and more, to offer select artisanal goods for purchase online and on mobile," stated eBay Now through a blog post.

The holiday promotion with eBay Now and Ferry Building aims to market to residents the local goods that are already around them. Limited to 10 items for every order, customers can enjoy the same-day delivery until December 31.
