Apple is expected to launch its next-gen smartphones — the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — in September. Various rumors of the upcoming handsets have been circling the tech industry and the latest leaked details point that the iPhone 7 will be waterproof and capable of wireless charging.

Most of the flagship smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S7 — iPhone 6s' arch rival — are waterproof. However, Apple handsets are not resistant to water. A previous Tech Times report highlighted that iPhone 6s Plus encountered significant water damage, and the screen of the device became unresponsive when submerged in water for 15 minutes.

Being a premium handset, iPhones have a steep price tag. Although, the iPhones have a one-year limited warranty, the company does not cover liquid damage. Many iFans are worried about the occasional spills that can occur accidentally.

"If liquid damages an iPhone or iPod (for example, coffee or a soft drink), the service for the liquid damage isn't covered by the Apple one-year limited warranty or an AppleCare Protection Plan (APP)," says Apple.

However, PLAYfuldroid has good news for iPhone lovers, as the publication suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus will be water resistant. PLAYfuldroid has managed to get hold of an image, which is believed to be part of a PowerPoint presentation given during an official Foxconn conference. The PowerPoint slide suggested that the iPhone 7 Plus will run on iOS 10, which is no surprise.

However, the slide also reveals that the iPhone 7 Plus will have no headphone jacks and will feature wireless charging. Reports have highlighted that Apple will get rid of the 3.5 mm audio jack in favor of wireless AirPods. The absence of the 3.5 mm jack will let Apple make the iPhone 7 thinner than its predecessors.

The base models of the iPhones are available with 16 GB of on-board storage. However, speculations are rife that the Apple may do away with the 16 GB model and replace them with 32 GB models in iPhone 7 family. It is expected that the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will be available in 32 GB, 64 GB and 256 GB variants.

Apple has not confirmed any details of the next-generation iPhones. It is likely that Apple will launch the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus this year. However, a Tech Times report also suggests that the company may introduce another member to the premium iPhone family, which will be called iPhone 7 Pro. Most probably, the iPhone 7 Pro could also sport features such as wireless charging, water resistance and more.

The next-generation iPhone is estimated to be launched this fall and till then customers should take all rumors regarding the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus with a pinch of salt.
