Attack on Titan's world of massive monsters isn't one for the faint of heart. Defending the city takes courage, skill and teamwork, and even then the chances of survival are slim.

Bringing the often bloody anime to life in playable form is the job of the upcoming Attack on Titan game adaptation from Koei Tecmo, so it only makes sense that the game would also include co-operative elements. Given the source material, working together with fellow members of the Survey Corps. is the only real way to fight back the Titan menace, and Attack on Titan will let players do just that in a newly detailed multiplayer mode.

The game's "Scout Mode" will allow up to four players to team up online to embark on various missions. Groups will start at a camp where they can equip gear, change costumes and prepare for battle. Once all players are prepared, the group leader can select a mission, with settings including the Stohess District, the forest of Giant Trees, the Ruined Town and more, all of which watchers of the show should be familiar with.

From there players will need to work together in bringing the enemy Titans down. Slaying Titans and completing missions will earn players resources that can be used to upgrade equipment like swords, 3D-maneuvering gear, scabbards and more. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the game will include the ability to play co-op via split screen.

So far the game looks promising, and fans won't have to wait too much longer to get their hands on it. Attack on Titan arrives on Aug. 30, developed by Omega Force, the team behind the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Those who preorder the game through Amazon, Best Buy or GameStop will receive additional costumes for characters Eren, Levi and Mikasa. The preorder DLC puts Eren and Levi in cleaning outfits, while Mikasa receives a festival costume that has the fearsome fighter wearing a dress and hat. Attack on Titan will release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

That's not the only good Attack on Titan news. Official confirmation that the long-awaited second season of the show will release in 2017 has finally arrived as well, so here's hoping the video game can hold fans over until then. The game's story adapts the first season of the anime, so it should make for a good refresher course before diving into season two.
