Developer Night Dive Studios is bringing the remake of System Shock to PCs, the Xbox One and wait for it... PS4, to complete the triad of gaming.

Well, those three platforms are more or less the same systems that most games launch on, hence the "triad of gaming."

In any case, an update on the ongoing Kickstarter campaign for the reboot of System Shock recently announced that developers have finally concluded their talks with the Sony company and as such will be releasing the game onto the PlayStation platform as well.

"After we saw the overwhelming demand for PS4, we reshuffled our priorities and focused on talking to Sony about making that happen," describes project director, Jason Fader, in reference to the team's initial focus on "wrapping" the game up in preparation for its upcoming demo.

While gamers on the Xbox One and PC platforms will be receiving copies of their own System Shock Remastered sometime in 2017, Fader revealed that PS4 gamers will have to wait a year longer as the studio expects the PlayStation-ready version to be finished by no sooner than the first quadrant of 2018. The project director explains that porting a game onto several platforms requires much more time (and money) to ensure that System Shock will perform as expected on each rig without the unnecessary bugs and glitches.

The game's Kickstarter campaign, on the other hand, has surpassed its initial goal of $900,000 by about $196,000 with only a week left before funding closes. It's important to note, however, that the initial figures were a reflection of the developer's previous goal to port it only on Microsoft products, which presumably translates to the studio needing a bit more than its intended goal to ensure that System Shock works smoothly across all platforms.

"The Kickstarter ends next week and we have more stretch goals to hit. Please help support us so we can make this game as amazing as we're envisioning for PS4!" writes Fader in a separate announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

As for those who've never heard of the game before — probably due to the game being released back in 1994 or about 20 years ago — System Shock, as developers claim, was the first of its kind to introduce the gaming world to a new form of gameplay, taking a more "methodical approach to exploration while revealing a story driven narrative through audio logs and messages scattered throughout the game world." This ushered in a new form of playstyle that would inspire future games like Dead Space and BioShock.
