Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S7 edge in February this year, and now the company has also announced the Galaxy Note 7. Both smartphones pack a punch, but there are some key differences between the two.

Here is a specs comparison of the latest Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S7 edge.

Screen

The Galaxy S7 edge sports a 5.5-inch dual-edge Quad HD Super AMOLED screen with a display resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The new Galaxy Note 7 touts a slightly bigger 5.7-inch dual-edge Quad HD Super AMOLED screen that packs in the same pixels as the Galaxy S7 edge.

Processor And RAM

Samsung has launched two models of the Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S7 edge: one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor for the U.S. and an international variant running on an Exynos 8890 chip.

Both the mobile phones have 4 GB of RAM.

Storage

The Galaxy S7 edge is available with 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage options. However, customers can only buy the Galaxy Note 7 with 64 GB of on-board storage.

Both handsets have a microSD card slot that can be used to expand the storage capacity of the devices.

Battery

The Galaxy S7 edge has a 3,600 mAh battery, while the latest Galaxy Note 7 has a slightly smaller 3,500 mAh battery. Both devices support wireless charging.

It is worth noting that the Galaxy Note 7 has a USB Type-C port that allows for fast charging.

Camera

Both flagship smartphones are equipped with a 5-megapixel (f/1.7 lens) selfie camera and an 12-megapixel (f/1.7 lens) rear-facing camera.

The cameras of both the phones have optical image stabilization, or OIS, which helps improve the photo quality.

Operating System

Both the Samsung offerings run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system straight out of the box.

Form Factor

The Galaxy S7 edge measures 5.94 x 2.86 x 0.30 inches, or 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 millimeters, while the Galaxy Note 7 measures 6.04 x 2.91 x 0.31 inches, or 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9 millimeters.

The Galaxy S7 edge weighs 5.54 ounces, or 157 grams, making it lighter than the Galaxy Note 7, which weighs 5.96 ounces, or 169 grams.

Security

Both the Samsung phones have a fingerprint sensor embedded in the physical home button. Customers can easily unlock the device with their finger in seconds, eliminating the need of passcodes.

The Galaxy Note 7 also has an iris scanner, however, which scans an authorized person's eyes and unlocks the phablet.

"Keeping your information private and protected has always been a top concern. So we developed one of the most foolproof ways to keep that information accessible only to you-iris scanning. Not only is it one of the safest ways to keep the Galaxy Note7 and the data it holds safe from prying eyes, it's also one of the most convenient," says Samsung.

Stylus

The S Pen Stylus has been an integral part of smartphones in the Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy Note 7 has a re-designed S Pen that comes with more features to enhance user experience.

"The new S Pen writes with ease and precision. The smaller 0.7mm tip and improved pressure sensitivity provides a real pen-like experience. With the peace of mind that IP68 water resistant provides, the Galaxy Note7 S Pen lets users jot down their thoughts without interruption, even when the screen gets wet," says Samsung.

The S Pen stylus is in fact one of the biggest differentiators, as the Galaxy S7 edge doesn't have this feature.

Water And Dust Resistance

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note 7 are IP68 certified, which means they are fully dust-proof and waterproof in 1.5-meter deep water for 30 minutes.

Price

Samsung is selling the Galaxy S7 edge for $769.99. Reports suggest that carriers in the U.S. will offer the Galaxy Note 7 for $849.99 outright.
